I WANT TO MARRY YOU!

Sydney Same Sex Celebrant Stephen Lee

Isn't it time that Australia's politicians finally caught up with public opinion and made same sex marriage legal across the country?

Two people who want to spend their lives together is a wonderful thing. Love takes no notice of age, gender, sexuality, race, religion, background or culture - and nor do I! Love also takes no notice of the law - despite what Australia's Marriage Act of 1961 says.

Until same sex marriage is legal in Australia (and let's hope that day is soon, despite the politicians) it's important we continue to celebrate our relationships.

COMMITMENT CEREMONIES

Just like a wedding but without the legals

I help same sex couples to celebrate their love with a commitment ceremony. Or sometimes couples go overseas for a legal ceremony and have a second ceremony with me to reaffirm their vows in front of family and friends.

We’ll create a bespoke ceremony that’s unique, personal, authentic and fun. It can be as short or as long, as simple or complex as you wish - but I ensure it tells your story in a memorable and engaging way that reflects you and your personalities.

I know exactly where you're coming from and you can feel absolutely comfortable working with me. So it goes without saying that you can relax and be open. No awkward silences, misunderstandings, explanations or justifications.

I actively campaign for equality. I had the honour of conducting one of Australia's first legal same sex marriages in Canberra. Although the law was repealed by the High Court, it was a key milestone in the road to marriage equality. I've also conducted a same sex marriage in London, marched in Sydney Mardi Gras several times under the Marriage Equality flag, and appeared in the media several times to discuss the issue.

My husband Andrew and I had a Civil Partnership ceremony in the UK back in 2006. We were the first gay couple our Registrar had performed a legal ceremony for. And in December 2014, we were able to convert that into a legal same sex marriage at the British Consulate in Sydney. I'd like nothing more than to be able to legally marry every couple who wants to tie the knot here in Australia, and much of my motivation to become a Marriage Celebrant was so I could be ready for when the law changes.

Let's celebrate the love in our lives and the joy it brings every day!
