Harbour beach wedding and boat trip
Combine your Kiss Me Quick Bronze or Silver marriage ceremony with a trip across Sydney Harbour and a visit to a harbourside beach. It's a truly memorable wedding day for you, your family and friends!
We start from Circular Quay, or from Bradfield Park at Milsons Point with its panoramic views of Sydney - an ideal chance for you to arrive early and get some wedding photos with the city's iconic views behind you. Bradfield Park is easy to get to by train, ferry, bus or car with plenty of easy on-street parking right by the park.
Then your private water taxi will take you to Athol Beach - a sandy spot in a bushland setting, with picture postcard views across the harbour taking in the CBD, Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
We'll disembark for your marriage ceremony, and be barefoot on the beach as you say your wedding vows to each other. There'll be time for photographs and a wander along the shoreline before we return to the boat - with towels on hand to wash and dry your feet!
Then the journey will continue to Farm Cove, close to Sydney Opera House for more photography opportunities from the deck. The boat has a fully enclosed cabin with large windows. Your guests can enjoy the iconic views from the panoramic windows or the open deck. Feel free to BYO for a champagne toast!
The trip lasts for 1 hour and 15 minutes. It's an experience you won't find elsewhere because the boats we use are the only ones that can do beach landings. The price is based on a group of 10. Extra guests can be accommodated, up to a total of 25 people, with an extra fee per person.
What to expect
Available at extra charge
Where does the boat pick us up from?
Pick up and from drop off is from Circular Quay by the MCA or from Jeffrey Street Wharf, Kirribilli.
How many people can come?
10 people (including the marrying couple but not the Celebrant) are included in the fee. The maximum group size is 25. Extra people are charged at $30 per person.
How big is the boat?
The boat is a medium sized water taxi with seats for everyone. There are panoramic glass windows all around for views. You are welcome to go outside on the deck for photographs as directed by the boat skipper. The deck can accommodate around 10 people at a time.
Are there any accessibility issues on the boat?
Boarding is via the front deck and the boat has several steps from the deck into the cabin. Beach landings use a front ramp with no handrail. We do not recommend this type of boat wedding if you have very elderly guests or those with mobility issues. The boat skipper is responsible for everyone's comfort and safety on board and they have the final decision to allow or deny boarding. So please advise us in advance if you think issues may arise.
What's the procedure on the boat?
Everyone on board MUST remove their shoes for the boat journey AND while on the beach. You can leave your belongings safely on the boat while we disembark for the ceremony. For safety reasons, you must stay barefoot while out on the deck. After the ceremony, we provide a foot bath and towels to wash sand from your feet.
During the journey you are welcome to move around the cabin but travel across the harbour can sometimes be choppy, so it's always best to stay seated when possible.
We must reboard the boat immediately upon its return to Athol Beach to avoid getting beached on the sand. Please follow the skipper's instructions at all times.
Can we play our own music on the boat?
The boat is equipped with Bluetooth audio if you wish to play music during the cruise.
Can we BYO?
Yes. However, only plastic glasses are permitted.
How long do we spend on the beach and on the water?
After pick up we go straight to the beach and disembark for 30 minutes for the wedding ceremony and some photographs. The remaining 45 minutes is on the harbour and includes a stop at Farm Cove for photos by the Opera House.
What can we expect at Athol Beach?
Athol Beach is a small cove and harbour beach with rocks at both ends and a bush backdrop close to Taronga Zoo, but difficult to access from the road. So it can often be deserted on weekdays. It is best visited at low tide. At high tide, space on the sand is limited. We can check tide times against your preferred ceremony time before you book and advise accordingly. We encourage you to get your feet wet!
What style of wedding will it be?
Keeping it simple and easy means we do not include music, wedding parties, an entrance etc and we do not have chairs, decorations or styling. We gather everyone together, get to the point and get you married! This suits a Kiss Me Quick Bronze or Silver wedding best.
Can we add the Ceremony Styling package to this trip?
The styling package is not available for this location.
What should we wear?
You are welcome to dress as formally or informally as you wish. Beach weddings tend to be more informal. Please dress for the weather conditions.
What happens in bad weather?
The nature of this style of wedding means it is dependent on the weather. While we hope for the ideal blue skies and sunshine, in choosing this option, you accept the risk of unfavourable weather. If a wedding in such conditions is a major concern, this is not the best choice for you. Clearly, we cannot accept responsibility for the weather!
In severe weather, the boat operator may make the call to cancel the cruise if it's unsafe to go out on the harbour. If this happens, we will discuss alternative options and associated fee variations with you depending on the circumstances. These could include:
- Rescheduling to another day (subject to availability)
- Moving your ceremony to a different venue of your choosing
In unfavourable weather, the cruise will continue as planned. You can choose to:
- Hold your ceremony inside the boat
- Continue with the beach landing and use umbrellas
- Change to a harbour island landing where there is cover (subject to availability)
If you decide to cancel the cruise, there is no refund.
