Weddings aren’t just about a couple joining together, it’s also about a family becoming as one – as Carl and Mel’s moving ceremony proved.
I loved getting to know Mel and Carl over a few glasses of wine. Mel has such a way with words that she made my job so easy. Their story pretty much told itself and I could see at once how much in love they were. From the little looks they gave each other over the kitchen table as they told me how they met and fell in love, to the moment their eyes first met on their wedding day aboard the yacht which brought them together, Carl and Mel had such an infectious joy that it was an absolute delight to be around them.
Carl has become Dad to Melanie’s two children so as well as his vows to Mel, Carl also wrote some vows for the children, promising to be a loyal and loving father (which of course he is already!) The children stood with Mum and Dad during the whole ceremony so I felt like I was marryng the whole family – perfect.
The children saw it as a big day for them too, which it certainly was. I asked them to tell me why they were so happy that Mum and Dad were getting married, and I’m not ashamed to say the letters they posted me back brought a tear to my eye. And when we read them out at the ceremony (Carl and Mel didn’t know the contents until then) well, that was a real highlight of the day.
Congratulations Mr and Mrs B! Thank you for inviting me in to your lives.
