It was a real honour to be described as among the elite of Sydney’s wedding industry and to be nominated for a Celebrant of the Year award at the 2014 WEOA Awards.
Weddings and Events of Australia is an industry umbrella organisation that selects and works with the top suppliers around the country. Their 2014 awards night was a glitzy affair at Doltone House on Jones Bay Wharf in Sydney. My old colleague from Channel Ten, Ron Wilson, was presenting the awards so it was great to catch up and talk about the old days when we worked on Ten Morning News together!
My gorgeous colleagues from Engage Celebrants, Liz and Kath, joined me for the dinner and we jumped into the photo booth for a few fun snaps. And it was great to chat to all the other wedding suppliers there. It’s such a big industry and as a celebrant, it’s actually quite a solo affair. Rarely do I have much contact with the huge team organising the rest of the wedding day and all that entails apart from a quick chat and hello before the ceremony begins. We’re all so busy making sure everything runs smoothly! So to feel part of the bigger picture reminded me that what we do is a massive team effort, but the focus is always on the individual.
Congratulations to all the winners and other finalists. This year I was runner up. It’s always great to be recognised by your peers, but the MOST important recognition comes from YOU – all the amazing couples I have married or are about to marry. Your thanks and praise are valued above everything else, so thank you everyone for your kindness and for spreading the word!
