Marrying people is a very serious job – so it’s vital to keep your skills sharp. To stay ahead of the game, you must never stop learning.
Did you know – Marriage Celebrants have to undergo Professional Development training every year in order to stay registered? I’ve just done mine. It’s brilliant to get together with fellow celebrants to swap stories, tips, different ways of doing things and work through new developments in law. You must never stop learning, especially from other people.
I joined my colleagues from Engage Celebrants for the day’s session. There is always a required element, laid down by the Attorney General’s Department. This year it was the recognition in Australia of overseas marriages. Not always as simple as you may think. We are many things as Celebrants, including Lawyers! We also discussed how to write vow renewal ceremonies, and good practice for marriage ceremonies. I came away with a few top tips which I know will be useful for the future.
