Today was about conference not confetti as I joined a Sydney small business summit to talk about the wedding industry.
It was a pleasure to be invited by Google to join a panel discussion at the National Small Business Summit 2018 in Sydney, organised by Vodafone Australia and the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia. We talked weddings and how Celebrants like me can use data and digital trends to find customers and grow. Traditionally, word of mouth has been a big driver of business for Celebrants, but that is diminishing. We need to be able to look at the insights and data available to us, so we can proactively find couples. How do they find me? How long do they spend on my website? Where are the coming from? What Instagram hashtags and accounts do they follow? We also discussed the importance of video, YouTube channels, Google My Business and other free tools that help small businesses gain visibility. We were sandwiched between addresses from Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen and former Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, so we were in good company. Great to be involved and share some of my experience of running a successful small business!
